AMD Cyberjaya Toastmasters Club 8th Meeting

Call to order and Welcome by ASAA - Heemi-Fazeere Hanif
ASAA called to order and started the meeting.

President's Address - Tanes-Kumar N-Maniam
Club's President, Tanes gave welcome speech and address the fellow toastmasters.
Talked about the theme for today's meeting - The Beginning and then brief on how AMD Cyberjaya TM Club started.

Toastmaster of the Evening - Muhammad-Rashid Narayanan
TM Muhammad-Rashid Narayanan , the Toastmasters of the Evening started with briefing audience on the history of Toastmasters International followed by the purposed of AMD Cyberjaya TM Club.
He then called out each role player to explain on their roles and responsibilities.

  2. Grammarian - TM Norman Ahmad-Osman
  3. Ah-Counter - TM Nabila Kadir
  4. Timer - TM Norshela Mohamed-Azahar


Table Topic Session - Table Topic Master TM Ain-Nabilah Ibrahim
During this portion of the meeting, club members (and willing guests) practice impromptu speaking by responding to questions or topics prepared by the Table Topics Master. Sometimes the topics are simple, such as "My Favourite Holiday", and sometimes they are more challenging, focusing on issues of the day, such as Elections, the Olympics, Health, Education or Crime, where you may be required to give an opinion, or argue a point of view.

The Table Topic Speakers and their topics for this meeting were :

  1. TM Dropati Ramnawal - What is your last wish if you are going to die tomorrow?
  2. TM Siti-Zalikha Zakaria - In what sense Steve Jobs affects you the most?
  3. TM Wai Chan-Fai - What is the thing that you most wanted to do but not allowed to?
  4. TM Amin (from MMU) -Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
  5. TM Fairizul - If you were given a chance to be in a movie, what movie is that and why?


Project Speakers Session

In this section, Toastmasters practice their public speaking skills by giving a prepared presentation from the Communication and Leadership Programmes. Each project in every manual has a specific objective in an area that helps you practice different speaking techniques. These objectives are designed as guidelines to help you think about the various qualities that comprise a good speech. Some speakers may be giving an icebreaker, while others may be trying to persuade you to their point of view, or inform you about technical issues relating to their hobby or occupation. You'll learn something new with every speech you listen to!
In this meeting we have speakers who did their speech for 4 different projects.

Speakers for Ice Breaker project and their topic in this meeting were :

Speaker for Project 2 (Organize Your Speech) is :

  2. TM Malon, Vijiheswary - Tips and Etiquettes
Speaker for Project 4 which is How To Say it :
  1. TM Abd-Rahman, Asmah - A Writer in Me


Table Topic Evaluation - TM Shel Ling, DTM
TM Shel Ling gave evaluation for all table topic speakers with one message across which is how important it is to conclude your speech.
She praised all speakers that they are all confidence speakers, and mentioned a few improvement point :
  1. Avoid pacing as it is a sense of nervousness
  2. Slow down when speaking
  3. Do not apologize to the audience for any reason - SPEAKERS DO NOT APOLOGIZE
  4. Do not be too dependent on the rostrum.

Project Speech Evaluation and Reports

In this session, all the evaluators presented their evaluation project speakers. General Evaluator, TM Shel Ling, DTM called upon all the speech evaluator to come in front and present their evaluation.
The evaluators for this meeting are :
  1. TM Jamila Mohamed, ACS, CL gave her evaluation for Project 3 Speaker TM Kam Yuen Chi and TM Vijiheswary.
  2. TM Barry Ong, ACS, ALS gave evaluation for Project 2 Speaker TM Mohamed Annuar.
  3. TM Stanley Chan gave evaluation for Project 1 Speaker TM Norliza.
  4. TM Emil Anthony, ACS, ALB gave evaluation for Project 4 Speaker TM Asmah.
TM Shel Ling then called upon all the role players to present their reports :
  1. Grammarian's Report - TM Norman
  2. AH Counter Report - TM Nabila
  3. Timer's Report - TM Norshela


General Evaluator and Invocator evaluation
At the end, General Evaluator TM Shel Ling, DTM gave her evaluation on overall meeting. Some of her points are :
  1. She was surprised to see the number of attendees for the meeting, and very happy with it. She mentioned to keep the fun and enthusiasm.
  2. Congratulate AMD Cyberjaya TM Club with the new meeting venue (Wonder Woman)

Awards
The President, TM Tanes announce the winners of the awards for this week, based on voting from all attendees.
  1. Best Table Topic - TM Dropati
  2. Best Speaker - TM Annuar
  3. Best Evaluator - TM Jamila, ACS, CL

TM Shel Ling, DTM presented the certification to all first batch members who attended the meeting today.

President's Address - Tanes-Kumar N-Maniam


Club's President, Tanes gave welcome speech and address the fellow toastmasters. He explained that meeting will proceed without external evaluators and guests and mentioned that this is a chance for us to practice becoming an evaluators.
He talked about the theme (diversity) and word of the day (Peace) in conjunction with the Merdeka day- how we should put side all the differences between us and live together in peace and harmony as 1Malaysia.

TM Dropati , the Toastmasters of the Evening explained on the meeting agenda and call out each role player to explain on their roles and responsibilities.

TM Nurfiedayu - Give out a speech assuming you are a top 10 candidate in Miss World competition.

Table Topic Evaluation - TM Mohamed Annuar Mohamed

TM Annuar gave his evaluation to all the table topic speaker, giving good and constructive feedbacks, as well as improvement suggestions.
All table topic speakers have done a job well done!

In this session, all the evaluators presented their evaluation project speakers. General Evaluator, TM John Nitis called upon all the speech evaluator to come in front and present their evaluation.
The evaluators for this meeting are :

Speech Evaluator TM Kam Yuen Chi gave her evaluation for Project 1 Speaker TM Remy, and Project 3 Speaker TM Asmah.
Speech Evaluator TM Tanes gave evaluation for Project 1 Speaker TM Hadi Hazizuddin.
Speech Evaluator TM Norman gave evaluation for Project Speaker 2 TM Heemi Fazeree.

TM John Nitis then called upon all the role players to present their reports :

General Evaluator and Invocator evaluation

At the end, General Evaluator TM John Nitis gave his evaluation on overall meeting. Some of his points are :
He liked the spirit and enthusiasm from all the members who attend the meeting.
He suggested that all the role players have a 10-15 minutes discussion before the meeting to iron out things if they didn’t turn up as per plan eg changes on the role players or getting the title for each speech.
He also commented that all the speech evaluator were too much depending on the manual to give evaluation. Giving that this is the first time all of them become speech evaluators this was a great experience and hope we can learn to become great speech evaluators.
Lastly, there is a recommendation from TM John Nitis to all speech evaluators - they should mention in the beginning of their presentation that the evaluations are based on their personal opinion rather than from a Toastmaster club as a whole.
